Nigeria winger Samuel Kalu collapsed on the pitch during Bordeaux's Ligue 1 clash with Marseille on Sunday, before making an incredible recovery.

The 23-year-old dropped to the ground just five minutes into the match, and there was immediate concern from everyone around him as both sides called for their medical teams.

According to the Daily Mail, the players formed a human shield around the Bordeaux winger while he was treated on the field, a scene similar to what we saw at the 2020 UEFA European Championship when Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's opening match against Finland.

Moments after being treated, however, Kalu made a quick recovery and was back on his feet and walking off the pitch while holding an ice pack against his head, and even returned to the field to carry on playing.

Bordeaux manager Vladimir Petkovic decided to be cautious, though, and replaced the the Super Eagles star with Remi Oudin, with the winger receiving a standing ovation from the crowd in attendance as he walked off.

Strangely, this is not the first time Kalu has collapsed on a football pitch – he reportedly fell to the ground due to "severe hydration" during a Nigeria training session at the Africa Cup of Nations back in 2019.
