Manchester United's R2.2bn bid rejected

Manchester United have reportedly had a massive £114 million (R2.2 billion) bid for a LaLiga star rejected.

With just two weeks before the transfer window closes, the Red Devils have stepped up their pursuit of reinforcements, having signed only three players since manager Erik ten Hag's appointment, namely Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez.

In recent weeks, a large number of names have been linked with United, including that of Juventus star Adrien Rabiot but that proposed deal collapsed due to the Frenchman's excessive wage demands.

In recent days, though, the English outfit has reportedly turned its sights to a couple of Atletico Madrid players.

Brazil international Matheus Cunha is one of the attackers thought to be on United's radar, although it has been claimed no official bid has been tabled for the 23-year-old, while Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann have also been linked in a potential swap deal for Cristiano Ronaldo.

With the Red Devils reportedly scrambling for a big signing, the Premier League club has now had a mammoth offer of £114 million for Joao Felix turned down by Diego Simeone's side, according to the Daily Star.

It is claimed the Premier League giants were categorically told that the Portugal forward is not for sale, and to add salt to the wound, they were also informed that Felix has no interest in moving to Old Trafford.

As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, United football director John Murtough had been in direct contact with Los Rojiblancos regarding a potential deal but he was given a firm "no" for his efforts.

Felix, 22, arrived in the Spanish capital for a club-record fee of €127.2 million (R2.1 billion) from Benfica in 2019, but many feel he has failed to live up to that hefty price tag, although some believe that is down to Simeone's rigid and often defence-minded style of play.
