It is understood that many of their stars are on big salaries and that the club is willing to sell if the right offers come through, with the end goal said to be to free up funds to land the signature of Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.

The five stars who are reportedly exempt from the chop are Karim Benzema, Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde, Vinicius Junior, and new arrival David Alaba.

Ancelotti, who has returned to the Spanish capital for a second spell in charge of the club, is understood to be happy to work with president Florentino Perez on this potential mass exodus.

The Real hierarchy is believed to be in agreement that they need more cash in the coffers in order to make a serious attempt to sign Mbappe.

The LaLiga giants have already parted ways with long-time captain Sergio Ramos and his former defensive partner Raphael Varane, who have joined PSG and Manchester United, respectively.
