Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero has backed Vitesse teammate Martin Odegaard for a switch to Ajax Amsterdam when his loan from Real Madrid ends this season.
Odegaard was lauded as one of the most promising playmakers in European football after making his senior international debut for Norway at the tender age of 15.
However, a €4 million move to Real Madrid from Strømsgodset severely stalled his development with a lack of first-team opportunities between 2014 and 2017.
The 16-time capped Norway star has since made the most of three separate loan spells in the Eredivisie, the last of which has been a standout campaign in Arnhem alongside Serero - which has seen him linked with a €20m switch to the UEFA Champions League semi-finalists.
With Frenkie De Jong set for FC Barcelona and Matthijs De Ligt, Hakim Ziyech, David Neres and Nicolas Tagliafico all targets for Europe's elite in the off-season, De Joden are likely to embark on a spending spree to bolster their options for the 2019/20 season.
Dutch publication the Telegraaf claims his performance against Ajax for Vitesse on Tuesday is said to have convinced the club's hierarchy he's a 'real Ajax player'.
While Serero added: "He can handle it - if I were Ajax, I would try to buy him, because Martin is a great football player."
The 20-year-old has scored eight goals and registered nine assists in 33 games across all competitions this season.
