Patricio thus becomes Mourinho's first signing since the former Tottenham Hotspur boss was appointed as head coach of Roma in May.

The new signing has since revealed his delight at signing for the Giallorossi.

"Roma is a big club and a new challenge and I'm excited to try and help the club achieve its targets," he said, according to the club's official website.

"In Jose Mourinho we are talking about one of the greatest coaches in the world and I am excited to start working with him and doing everything I can to help the team."

Patricio, who won the 2016 UEFA European Championship with Portugal, has earned 97 caps for his national team, making him the country's most-capped goalkeeper of all time.
