Serie A match report Juventus v Fiorentina 20 April 2019

Juventus clinched their eighth consecutive Serie A title with five matches to spare after beating Fiorentina 2-1 on Saturday evening at Allianz Stadium.

Bianconeri made only two changes from their defeat against Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, with Joao Cancelo and Juan Cuadrado coming in to the fold.

Nikola Milenkovic gave the visitors a shock lead in the sixth minute after scoring into an empty net after goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny parried Federico Chiesa’s cross into his path.

Giovanni Simeone thought he had found the second goal for Fiorentina in the 26th minute after slotting home a cross from Kevin Mirallas but he was flagged offside immediately thereafter.

Ten minutes later, Massimiliano Allegri’s charges equalised three minutes later courtesy of Alex Sandro who pulled clear at the near post and powered home a cross from Miralem Pjanic.

Chiesa was unlucky again for Fiorentina three minutes before the break as his looping strike from the edge of the box came off the crossbar.

After a quiet first stanza from Cristiano Ronaldo in particular for Bianconeri, the Portuguese came to life in the early stages of the second as he forced an own goal from Fiorentina defender German Pezzella eight minutes into the second stanza.

Allegri needed fresh legs in his midfield in the 65th minute and he brought on Rodrigo Bentancur in place of Pjanic while Moise Kean replaced Federico Bernardeschi 10 minutes.

Bryan Dabo almost levelled matters for the visitors in stoppage time after going clear inside the box but he was denied by Szczesny from close range.

In the end Juventus were out of sight anyway as they clinched a 2-1 victory that confirmed their eighth straight Serie A title with five matches to spare.
