With Sadio Mane looking set to leave Liverpool, here is the latest on the Senegal star's future.

On 17 June, news broke that the 30-year-old had agreed to a three-year deal to join Bayern Munich ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Merseyside club will receive a guaranteed fee of €32 million (R537 million) for the player, with a further €9 million (R151 million) in add-ons included in the deal.

The transfer has picked up speed over the past few days, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Senegal international is now in Munich to undergo medical tests and sign his contract with the Bavarians.

It is further claimed that Mane's official presentation as a Bayern player will take place at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

With the deal now increasingly closer to its completion and Mane yet to openly speak of his planned departure from Anfield, the expected transfer has left some bemused, questioning why he would want to leave Jurgen Klopp's side despite having a year left on his contract in England.

Former Rangers and Scotland star Ally McCoist recently admitted he is still confused about the 2019 African Footballer of the Year's motives.

"Why is he doing it, is it for financial reasons? I don't know, that's the question we can't answer," he told talkSPORT.

"Is it because he wants to play in another country? Possibly. Is he going to a better league? No. Is he going to a more competitive league? No. Is he going to a better team? No.

"I find it very strange. The only thing I can see is the lure, the size of the club, Bayern Munich... is that something he's always wanted to do?

"I could actually understand it more if it had been Real Madrid or Barcelona. I could understand that a little bit more, because of maybe the lure of one of those clubs, particularly Real Madrid.

"I don't get it, maybe he just wants a fresh challenge. Maybe he just feels that he's [gone] a little bit stale, and that I can appreciate."
