Messi was in fine form as he netted a brace in Barca's 3-0 win over Liverpool's rivals, Manchester United, in the quarter-final round on Tuesday.

Van Dijk has received a lot of plaudits for his performances in the Reds defence this season, but he admits the clash will be a great match-up for the club.

“How are we going to do it? I don’t know, we’ll see,” a smiling Van Dijk told the club's official website.

“It’s going to be a great match-up for all of us. It’s about doing it all together, it’s never one v one, it’s never just me against a particular striker.

“It’s always us against everyone and I think that’s the only we can defend well.

“It’s going to be very hard (to stop Messi). I think he’s the best player in the world but we’ll see. We’re very happy to be in the semi-final again."
