General Competition Terms and Conditions


1. These Rules shall apply to all Competitions posted on or through the SNL24’s website, mobile-sites, software applications, or any of its social media channels that may be utilized for Competitions including, for example, its Instagram (@snl24sa), Facebook (@SNL24SA), or Twitter (@snl24sa) accounts. Certain Competitions may have additional terms, and such terms will be set out separately for such Competition. In the event that any particular Competition terms conflict with these Rules, the terms of the Competition shall prevail.

2. Promoter: a promoter (“Promoter”, “we”, “us” or “our”) includes any person who directly or indirectly promotes, sponsors, organizes and/or conducts a Competition, or for whose benefit such Competition is promoted, sponsored, organized or conducted, and may include SNL24. 

3. Competition: a competition (“Competition”) shall include any competition, game, scheme, arrangement, system, plan or device for distributing prizes by lot or chance provided that: (i) it is conducted in the ordinary course of business for the purpose of promoting a producer, distributor, supplier, or association of any such persons, or the sale of any goods or services; and (ii) the prize offered is in excess of R1.00 in value, irrespective of whether a participant is required to demonstrate any skill or ability before being awarded the prize. 

4. Competition period: the competition period will be specified for each Competition in the Promotional Materials as such term is defined in clause 6 below. No entries will be accepted after the closing date/time specified for a Competition.

5. Entry requirements: unless otherwise stated (and subject to the disqualification clause 9 below), you may participate in a Competition if: (i) you are a natural person who is at least 18 years old; (ii) you reside in South Africa; and (iii) it is lawful for you to be awarded the prize on offer. By entering the Competition, participants acknowledge, agree and understand that there is a possibility that they can win a prize, however, no guarantees are made that they will win a prize.

6. How to enter: the manner in which you enter a Competition, as well as all relevant terms, will be specified in the offer to participate in the Competition (the “Promotional Materials”). Unless otherwise stated: (i) you must enter the Competition by the means specified in such Promotional Materials; you must enter within the competition period; (iii) at the Promoter’s sole discretion, Winners will be randomly selected by means of an automated system, after the competition period has ended; (iv) Winners will be contacted telephonically or via email by the Promoter within one month of the end of the competition period; (v) if a Winner cannot be contacted after three attempts have been made to reach them on their chosen contact details (i.e. either a call is not answered, a call goes directly to voicemail, or an email is not responded to, etc.) then the prize will be forfeited by that Winner and a new Winner will be re-drawn through the same means specified in this clause 6; and (vi) the decision of the Promoter as to the Winner is final and there will be no correspondence to any participant explaining the reasons for such decision.

7. Number of entries: you may be limited to the number of times you can enter a Competition, the number of prizes you may win, and how often you can win a prize. Unless otherwise stated, entry is restricted to one entry per person and any duplicate entries will be excluded from the Competition. Where a Competition has more than one prize and multiple draws, entrants may only win once per Competition. 

8. Winner: a Competition winner (“Winner”) may be required to provide a copy of their ID and to sign a competition release form. To the extent that an ID, license (e.g. driver’s license), or permission (e.g. by a parent/guardian) is required in order to accept or use a prize, the Winner must produce such ID, license or permission for inspection by the Promoter prior to them receiving the prize. If the Winner does not or is unable to do so then, at the discretion of the Promoter, the prize will be forfeited, and another Winner will be drawn in accordance with clause 6 above.

9. Disqualification: In certain instances, a participant may be disqualified from participation or from eligibility to receive a prize. These instances include: (i) where the participant fails to provide any participant information within 48hours of it having been requested by the Promoter for the second time; (ii) where it is discovered that the participant has failed to comply with or contravened these Rules; (iii) the participant is unable to provide reasonably sufficient documentation to verify their identity, or refuses to or cannot provide a completed competition release form where requested to do so by the Promoter; or (iv) where the participant has previously won a Competition run by the Promoter within the past six months. Where a Winner is disqualified, the Promoter, in its sole discretion, shall be entitled to select another Winner or elect not to award the prize. In addition, no director, member, partner, employee, agent of, or consultant to the Promoter or any other person who directly or indirectly controls or is controlled by the Promoter, their advertising agencies, or their spouses, life partners, parents, children, brothers, sisters, business partners or associates, may enter a Competition. This also applies to a person who is a supplier of goods or services in connection with a Competition. 

10. Participant Information: by participating in a Competition, participants consent to the use by the Promoter and SNL24 of the information provided by the participant, which may include “personal information” as such term is defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. The use and disclosure of any such information shall be governed by the Media24 Privacy Policy available at: In order to announce a Winner, we may need to publish their name, surname and/or photograph, as part of marketing materials and activities surrounding the Competition. We may also require participant information (including your name and surname, email address, ID number, delivery address, telephone number, etc.) in order to deliver your prize to you. 

11. Prizes: unless otherwise specified, the prize(s) will be sent to the Winner(s) using the participant's information provided in terms of clause 10 above. Delivery of prizes shall be via courier, alternatively, any other means specified in the Promotional Materials, and shall be delivered to the Winner(s) nominated address provided as part of the participant information. The Promoter shall endeavour to deliver the prize(s) within a reasonable period of time. Any unclaimed prizes will be kept for up to a maximum of six months only, and, after such time the Promoter reserves the right to reallocate the prize(s) to an alternative Winner. Prizes are not transferable, and may not be deferred or exchanged for cash, or otherwise. 

12. Indemnity: by accepting a prize or by entering a Competition, the participant hereby indemnifies SNL24, its directors, agents, employees and the Promoters against any damages of any nature whatsoever that anyone may suffer as a result of the prize(s) and/or a Competition, including any consequential damages and economic loss.

13.Entry Fees: there will be no entry fees to participate in a Competition. However, if any taxes, levies, duties or any other charges (collectively, “Charges”) whatsoever are levied on a prize by any competent authority, the Winner will be liable for such Charges and the prize value will not be increased to compensate for the Charges. If a participant is required to send an SMS to enter a Competition, standard SMS rates will apply and, unless otherwise stated, any free SMSs a participant may have available will not apply.

14. Termination: should it be necessary or required due to unforeseen circumstances, the law or any instruction given by a competent authority to terminate a Competition then no notice of such termination to participants shall be required. In the event of termination, all participants waive any rights they may have and acknowledge that they shall have no claim of any nature whatsoever against the Promoter, or against SNL24, its directors, agents or employees as a result of such termination. Further, SNL24 reserves the right to vary, postpone, suspend, or cancel the Competition and any prizes that have not yet been drawn, or any aspect thereof, without notice at any time and for any reason whatsoever that SNL24, acting reasonably, considers acceptable at the time.
