With Al Ahly set to kick-start their 2022/23 CAF Champions League campaign this weekend, reports suggest that the Club of the Century will be without Percy Tau for the encounter.

Two African Nations Disqualified From Tournament For Age Cheating

The record African champions will be looking to add an 11th Champions League title to their trophy cabinet this season, and their journey to holding that cup aloft begins in Tunisia when they take on US Monastir on Sunday.

Last season's Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 runners-up will likely provide a tough test for the Red Devils, with both sides looking to secure a spot in the group stage of the 22/23 CAFCL.

The first leg of the encounter will be contested in Tunisia, but it looks like Al Ahly will be travelling without South Africa international Percy Tau for the tie.

The attacker is still struggling with a thigh injury and, according to KingFut, Ahly head coach Marcel Koller does not want to risk any further complications by rushing him back on to the pitch.

The same report suggests that the 28-year-old could also miss the return leg in Cairo next weekend, with the ex-Brighton & Hove Albion striker likely to return for the Egyptian side when they face eternal rivals Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup final on 28 October.

Tau had the most goal contributions of any player in last season's CAF Champions League (three goals and five assists).
