Xavi Hernandez has reacted to claiming his first piece of silverware as Barcelona manager after beating Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday.
Xavi Warns Ronaldo Over Al-Nassr Move
The Catalan giants beat their fierce Spanish rivals 3-1 at the King Fahd International Stadium in Saudi Arabia with goals from youngsters Pedri and Gavi as well as star striker Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona's ElClasico victory on Sunday night means head coach Xavi has now lifted his first trophy since taking charge of the club in 2021– it was also the Blaugrana's first title since Lionel Messi's departure a year and a half ago.
The 42-year-old believes his side displayed their strengths against Los Blancos, saying he feels Barca are capable of dismantling any opponent if they can do it to the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners.
"I am very satisfied because I really like how we played," he said after the game, according to Managing Madrid.
"It is clear that winning conditions us, because otherwise we wouldn't have confidence. Today, we didn't lose balls and the midfielders have understood their assignments very well.
"We have played better, but I am happy for the players because they have received a lot of unfair criticism and many players have freed themselves. It is a title against Madrid and we have to be very proud... Leo's departure was difficult to digest. But we are creating a team.
"I am happy. It gives us all peace of mind. I have to keep helping and keep guiding him. If we can do this against Madrid, we can do it against anyone.
"This gives me peace of mind. It will stay with me for the rest of my life. I just hope it's not the last."
