Reports suggest that Chelsea are on course to secure the services of a new forward for the 2023/24 season.

Barca Chief: A Deal For Messi Is Possible

Chelsea parted ways with a number of attackers in the past transfer window, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Michy Batshuayi and Callum Hudson-Odoi all leaving Stamford Bridge either temporarily or permanently.

The west Londoners are reportedly already looking at resolving this lack of attacking talent by bringing in one of Europe's brightest stars in Christopher Nkunku, according to Bild.

The French forward had a remarkable 2021/22 campaign with RB Leipzig, helping the club capture their first piece of silverware as a top-flight side, the German Cup, and scoring 35 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit.

As per Bild, Chelsea arranged a medical for Nkunku towards the end of the transfer window at a neutral facility in Frankfurt.

While this is said to have laid a great foundation for the two-time European champions to land the forward's signature, the Premier League giants still need to pay Leipzig the player's €60 million (R1 billion) release clause, and until then, any club can still swoop in for the ex-Paris Saint-Germain forward.

Nkunku recently signed an extension with the German outfit, but this seems purely to have been a ploy to maintain the player's value.
