Following his retirement from international football, former France captain Hugo Lloris has slammed the controversial antics shown by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final penalty shootout.
FFF President Apologises To Zidane After Mbappe Backlash
On Monday, the 145-time capped French international called time on his Les Bleus career, three weeks after losing the 2022 World Cup final to Argentina on penalties.
Lloris, who won the tournament in 2018 as captain, failed to save a single effort from 12 yards as the Albiceleste claimed the prestigious trophy in the Middle East, while his counterpart, Martinez, earned praise for his goalkeeping.
The Argentine was, however, criticised for some of his antics between penalties at the Lusail Stadium, actions the Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper believes he could never see himself doing.
"There are some things I can't do," he told L'Equipe.
"Making a fool of myself in goal, rattling my opponent and crossing the line… I just can't do that. I'm too rational and honest a man to go that way.
"I don't know how to win like that, although I didn't really want to lose like that either."
