Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League after defeating London rivals Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Result: Chelsea 0-1 Arsenal

Date: 06 November 2022

Venue: Stamford Bridge

The Blues brought in Marc Cucurella, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started against his former side.

The visitors, meanwhile, were back to full strength as Oleksandr Zinchenko returned to the defence as the regulars came back after being rested for the Europa League game on Thursday evening.

Arteta's charges enjoyed a lot of the ball in the early stages , with Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus looking lively with a couple efforts in the opening 20 minutes.

The Gunners should have been ahead in the 28th minute when a swift counter-attack ended with Martinelli picking out Jesus, who was unable to head home from six yards out.

That proved to be the final opening of the half, as Chelsea failed to test Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as Aubemeyang cut a frustrated figure upfront.

Arteta's men got the breakthrough on 62 minutes when Bukayo Saka's corner evaded everyone and was turned home by defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

Blues manager Graham Potter responded with a double change as Aubameyang and Kai Havertz made way for Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher for the final 20 minutes of the second half.

Martin Odegaard had a chance to make the game safe with 15 minutes to go, but the Danish midfielder sent his effort over the crossbar with only Édouard Mendy to beat.

Arteta's charges were able to see out the closing stages of the second half to clinch maximum points and move two points above Manchester City.
