Ghana international Osman Bukari has explained why he copied Cristiano Ronaldo's celebration in the 3-2 defeat to Portugal.

The Black Stars began their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with a defeat to the 2016 European champions on Thursday evening.

Ronaldo 'Very Proud' After Making WC History Against Ghana

Bukari caused quite a stir on social media when he bagged Ghana's second goal to make it 3-2 and went on to mimic Ronaldo's trademark celebration.

The Ghanian forward insists he was not trying to disrespect Ronaldo by doing the celebration.

“I let myself be carried away by the emotion of the moment, having scored a goal for my country, in my first World Cup," Bukari said, as per the Sun.

“My upbringing does not allow me to disrespect the elderly, much less one of my idols.”

The Black Stars will now turn focus to Monday's Group H encounter against South Korea, who drew 0-0 with Uruguay earlier in the day.
