Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has issued a challenge to African nations after securing top spot in Group F at the FIFA World Cup.

The Atlas Lions became the first African to qualify for the round of 16 as group winners since Nigeria achieved that same feat in 1998.

African champion Senegal also advanced to the knockout stage this week, while Tunisia and Ghana failed to progress past the group stages.

The Moroccan coach feels African sides need to change their mentalities and ambitions when heading to the World Cup.

"We set ourselves an objective to give everything we have and get out of the group stages," Regragui said, as per BBC Sport.

"After that, why not? Aim for the sky. We need to change our mentality, and we will be a difficult team to beat.

"Why not dream about winning that trophy? As African teams, we need to set this objective."

The Atlas Lions will face 2010 World Cup winners Spain in their round of 16 encounter on Tuesday evening.
