At the beginning of the season, the Red Devils were involved in a pursuit of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona as Erik ten Hag was keen to reunite with the player he was so successful with at Ajax Amsterdam.

The Dutch tactician tried all window long to lure his compatriot to the Theatre of Dreams, but to no avail.

The midfielder has once again reiterated his desire to stay at the Camp No, despite United have been persistent in their interest. According to Mundo Deportivo, the record Premier League champions have now shifted their focus to De Jong’s teammate in Catalonia, Franck Kessie.

The Ivory Coast international has been deemed an ideal partner for Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as Ten Hag looks to bolster his midfield. The Mancunians will, however, face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea who are also interested in the 26-year-old box-to-box midfielder.
