Having just lost out on one of their transfer targets in Cody Gakpo to Liverpool, Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has revealed the club's plans for the January window.

PSG Boss Addresses Mbappe-Messi 'Fallout' After WC Final

Following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from Old Trafford in Nivember, the United boss has limited options at his disposal as far as strikers are concerned.

The Dutch tactician's only out-and-out striker is Anthony Martial, and given the Frenchman's recent injury record, relying solely on the 27-year-old seems a risk.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with the Netherland's 2022 FIFA World Cup star Gakpo as they looked to reinforce their attack, but the young attacker is now Liverpool-bound after the Reds agreed a deal with PSV Eindhoven reportedly worth up to £45 million (R929 million) for his signature.

After United's 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night, Ten Hag told members of the media what the club's plans for the January transfer window are now that Gakpo is no longer available.

"We are always in the market, but it has to match the sporting criteria but also the financial criteria, and we will do what we can to bring that player in that we need," the 52-year-old said, as per Daily Mail.

The former Ajax Amsterdam boss was then asked for his thoughts on Gakpo's move to Anfield, and replied: "I don't talk about any individual cases. I am not looking at other teams, I am looking at our team.

"I am convinced in the players we have, individual and as a team, that we can compete with those other teams."

Gakpo has been in sublime form this season, having found the back of the net 13 times and assisted another 17 goals in the 24 appearances he made for PSV, and also scored three times in five matches at the World Cup
