The winger was in action as Bafana Bafana came from behind to register a 2-1 victory over Mozambique in an international friendly played at the Mbombela Stadium on Thursday.

Sekgota was constant menace down the left flank after he was introduced as a second half substitute, replacing the goalscorer on the day, Bongokhuhle Hlongwane.

The midfielder opened up on his time with the national team and why it will be beneficial in keeping him sharp for the return of domestic action in over a months’ time.

“It is nice to be in the squad and having good players around. This is a good environment for me as a player. I am learning and improving every time we get together in the national team,” Sekgota said via Chiefs’ official website.

“I am working hard and improving every day. We are on a break at club level; hence it is good for us to play in a match. At least one will get to keep fit and come back stronger after the break”

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar kicking off on Sunday, Sekgota has weighed in on the country he is backing to succeed in this year’s tournament.

“In terms of the Qatar FIFA World Cup starting this weekend, we wish we could have qualified to represent our country. In camp I hear lots of talk about Brazil, they look good as always and with Neymar currently playing well, I think they will do well in this World Cup,” he concluded.
