Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune says his side are keen on ending the curse that has been burdening the club for the last seven years.
While their counterparts have been racking up the trophies both on the continent and domestically, Amakhosi’s once glittering trophy cabinet has been gathering dust, with Chiefs waiting to end their trophy drought.
However, Chiefs are three cup matches away from silverware.

Standing between them is an AmaZulu side who they need to beat over two legs in the semi-final, as well as the winner of the tie between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
For Khune, who has lived through both the trophy-laden days as well as the barren run, he is desperate to restore parity for the Soweto giants when it comes to winning silverware.
“We want to break that ‘curse’ of not having won a trophy for the past seven years, so for us it’s motivation on its own that we have a chance of going all the way to the final,” Khune told the club’s media department.
“It’s all up to us, in how we are going to take the opportunities we create because in the league we’ve had a lot of box entries, but we haven’t been able to convert. Now, it’s a cup competition – two-legged – so we just have to make sure we do ourselves a favour and win home and away,” Khune said.

Kick off for the match is scheduled for 15:30 at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.
