Cole Alexander is the first to admit that things have not been going according to plan for Amakhosi. However, the players are not accepting the situation without putting up a fight.
According to the veteran midfielder, Chiefs’ training sessions have become so intense, that players have even resorted to wearing shin guards, a practice rarely seen in the DStv Premiership.
Additionally, Chiefs have also put in some extra hours on the pitch and with their analysis, therefore Alexander believes it's only a matter of time before the results start reflecting their efforts.
“We are doing everything we can do; we are doing our best, the players that came up [from the development] is great talented players. We are giving our best, I mean we are even training with shin guards, there’s not a lot of teams training with shin guards so it shows how the guys are getting stuck in at training, we are spending long hours at the club, we are analyzing things – we are putting in the hours, eventually something must give,” he told journalists at the Nedbank Cup draw.
He also reserved special praise for the club’s youth development, who have continuously managed to filter through talented players to the Chiefs first team.
“I must compliment those youngsters, I remember when I played my first few games as a youngster, I was shaking, I was so nervous, and my first few games wasn’t that great. But these boys, they come in and they shine.
“They have balls – sorry to use that term.
“They are composed, they can play, they know the game, so credit to the development at Kaizer Chiefs, boys come in and can smoke the pipe,” he continued.
