Mamelodi Sundowns have paused a number of contract negotiations of players and technical team members whose deals are up for renewal and another key player has joined the list.

Since head coach Rulani Mokwena was elevated to his current position, a lot of technical decisions, especially with regards to players' futures at the club will rest on his shoulders.

As reported in edition 1312, Soccer Laduma understands that Haashim Domingo is in the final months of his contract at the club and according to high ranking sources at Chloorkop, Mokwena could play a key role in the midfielder's contract extension.

Domingo joined Sundowns in 2020 from Bidvest Wits on a five-year contract, along with goalkeeper Ricardo Goss and striker Gift Motupa.

However, it has been revealed that the 27-year old's contract was broken up into a straight three-year deal and an option to renew for a further two years.

Word reaching the Siya crew is that there are no suggestions that Sundowns would not trigger the two-year option on Domingo's contract as he is one of the players who has been regularly used by Mokwena, with his absence from the team recently owing to an injury.

Another player whose future, in contrast, could be uncertain at the club once the season concludes is Motupa.

Motupa also put pen to paper on a five-year contract when he signed along with Goss, who was loaned out for two seasons to SuperSport United at the beginning of the campaign.

It's not yet clear if the former Orlando Pirates striker's deal at the reigning champions was structured in a similar manner to Domingo, in which case the Tshwane giants may need to decide on his future.

Motupa is yet to start a game for the Brazilians in all competitions this season, with only six appearances off the bench.

Sundowns did not make any signings in the January transfer window but they will have an opportunity to upgrade the squad in the off-season once they have settled the outstanding contract negotiations with members of the technical team.

And after not getting a proper look-in when marksman Peter Shalulile was injured, Motupa's future could lie away from the club, with a loan move an option, especially if Masandawana reinforce the squad with new forwards in the off-season.
