As previously reported by the Siya crew, Maritzburg United have confirmed the appointment of Fadlu Davids as their new head coach to replace John Maduka.

Davids has been linked with the head coaching role since the Team of Choice parted ways with Maduka and the club has now officially confirmed the appointment of the former Orlando Pirates co-coach, who is familiar to the surroundings having worked at the side as head coach, assistant and a player.

Davids will have a big task on his hands, with Maritzburg currently sitting bottom of the DStv Premiership standings after 13 matches. Under the guidance of Maduka, the Team of Choice were unable to get going, registering just two victories while the former Bloemfontein Celtic and Royal AM mentor was at the helm.

Davids, who was recently in Russia as an assistant coach to Josef Zinnbauer at Lokomotiv Moscow, will get time to work with the squad and see what they need before the January transfer window opens.

Club chairman Farook Kadodia said, "Fadlu is one of the youngest, brightest coaches in the game and we are pleased to have been able to bring him back to the Club."

Davids' first game in charge of the Team of Choice will be against TS Galaxy on December 30.
