When Pitso Mosimane took over the reins at Al Ahli Jeddah in September last year, he found a team that went through 14 coaches in the last five years; however, ‘Jingles’ has sparked a fantastic turnaround for the Saudi outfit.

Following their 3-0 win over Al Jabalain on Tuesday evening, Mosimane’s side climbed to the summit of the Saudi first division.

This is in stark contrast to the situation he found the club. When Mosimane joined, he found the club in seventh place in the second tier, after five matches played in the 16-team league.

But Mosimane quickly left his imprint on the team, tackling their lack of fitness as one of his first areas of concern.

In addition to his side’s conditioning, Mosimane implemented a playing philosophy, particularly in defence, where his side have improved tremendously.

Mosimane has also turned the King Abdullah Sports City into a fortress.

Of the six matches his side have played at home, they have conceded just four goals and picked up five victories, scoring 13 goals in the process. They are yet to taste defeat at their home stadium.

There is still a long way for Mosimane and his Al-Ahli side to go until the end of the league; although if they can maintain their current momentum, indications are that the club could return to the Saudi Pro League after being relegated in the 2021/22 season.
