As they did in January 2021, the UAE-based club will have to make a call on whether or not they want to keep the midfielder beyond the end of the 2022/23 season.

Serero has been part of the club since joining them from Dutch outfit Vitesse in 2019 and has established himself as a pivotal part of coach Marcel Kaiser’s team.

The former Bafana Bafana international has so far made 16 appearances in all competitions.

In his time in the oil-rich nation, he has managed to win the UAE Gulf League championship, as well as the UAE Supercup in 2021.

Serero will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with a team of his choice in January as he enters the last six months of his deal, and it remains to be seen whether he continues in the East, having left South Africa in 2011.
