Cape Town City's signing of former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho could open the door for another defender at the club to potentially move to the Glamour Boys.

The Citizens confirmed the signing of Gordinho on Tuesday, who returned to the PSL after initially leaving in 2020.

The 28-year old had a two-year stint at Danish Superligaen side Viborg FF before he joined second tier outfit HB Koge at the beginning of this season.

Soccer Laduma reported in edition 1290 that City centre-back Taariq Fielies was looking for a fresh challenge in his career and would be open for a move to Chiefs.

The arrival of Gordinho at the Citizens could potentially give the club space to entertain offers for Fielies, who is still contracted to the Mother City outfit for at least another two-and-half seasons.

The former Amakhosi defender says his spell in Denmark has helped him grow in other aspects of his career and explained why he joined City.

"Before returning here I was at another club in Denmark called Koge and a club called Viborg, I got a different perspective of football," Gordinho said in a presentation video posted by the club's media on their social platforms.

"Being a local boy, playing in South Africa compared to being a foreign player, I learned a lot about adaptation and professionalism.

"To be professional, no matter the circumstances you find yourself in you know, there's so many things you need to adapt to and I think that's what kept me going," he said.

"This opportunity came for me to come back to Cape Town City, the way they run the team and the players that they have, the foundation is there for the club, the team is in a good space.

"My biggest ambition is to help the team as much as possible, to reach the projected goals for the season, I think that's the most important thing," he added.

As reported in the latest edition of the publication, the chances of Chiefs acquiring their centre-back target, SuperSport United's Luke Fleurs looks very slim after their offer was deemed to be "disappointing" by Matsatsantsa, according to a high-level insider at the club.

Fleurs has since been tied to a three-and-half year contract.

The Glamour Boys looks to be in the market for a centre-back, with veteran defender Eric Mathoho's contract coming to an end in June next year while Thabani Dube has also fallen out of favour at the club.
