The past weekend saw the MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu FC at the Moses Mabhida stadium, taking centre stage on Saturday evening, with the domestic league games put on hold until towards the end of December due to the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Pirates midfielder, Miguel Timm emerged as the Man of the Match in his first cup final with Bucs, after joining them from Marumo Gallants at the beginning of the season. In a game that started with Pirates defender, Nkosinathi Sibisi, suffering an injury in the first minute, with his first and only touch of the game, forcing coach Jose Riveiro to make an unplanned substitution, bringing Paseka Mako as his replacement and subsequently changing the team’s formation.
It was until Monnapule Saleng scored from a set-piece to separate the two teams in the first half, in a game that both teams made it difficult for the opposition. A typical cup final match where both sets of players gave it their all, with not enough chances created for both teams.
