Romelu Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge for a club-record fee of €113 million (R1.9 billion) before the 2021/22 season commenced.

With his first spell at Chelsea not being so fruitful, the Belgian forward left the Blues in 2013 and went on to flourish with the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Everton, and Inter Milan, with whom he won the Serie A title, before making a comeback to the reigning European champions last year.

Jorginho joined Chelsea in 2018 from Napoli, having been brought in for €57 million (R969 million) by his former coach Maurizio Sarri to play the "regista" role in his 4-3-3 formation, akin to the one he was playing in during his time with Gli Azzurri.

The Italy international was an important cog in Sarri's Chelsea machine, helping the Blues secure the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League trophy, the manager's first-ever piece of silverware.

Fernando Torres' arrival in West London was extremely controversial. The 2010 FIFA World Cup winner became the most expensive player in British football history when he made the switch from Liverpool for €58.5 million (R995 million).

One of the world's best strikers back then, Torres would struggle to replicate the form he showed at Anfield for Abramovich's men. Regardless, the Spaniard's stint at the Blues was a trophy-laden one, having won the 2011/12 FA Cup, the 2012/13 Europa League and the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League titles.

Christian Pulisic, meanwhile, was signed from Borussia Dortmund in January 2019 for €64 million (R1 billion), but would only join the Blues the following season.

Two Billionaires To Buy Chelsea?

While his time with Chelsea has been plagued with injuries, he has been able to deliver when fit, contributing to 38 goals in 101 appearances to date. He also became the first player from the US to win the Champions League when the West Londoners defeated Manchester City in the 2020/21 final.
