Premier League table-toppers Arsenal have officially announced their first arrival of the January transfer window.

The Gunners have swiftly agreed a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion to secure the services of Belgian star Leandro Trossard, with the 28-year-old becoming the first signing to join Mikel Arteta's squad in this transfer window as the Spanish tactician bolsters his frontline for their EPL title charge.

Having missed out on Ukrainian sensation Mykhaylo Mudryk to London rivals Chelsea earlier this month, it seems Arsenal were not keen on engaging in another protracted transfer saga as the deal for Trossard reportedly materialised in a matter of days.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will pay an initial fee of £21 million (R449 million) for the Belgian, which could rise by a further £6 million (R128 million) should various add-ons be achieved.

Trossard was integral to seventh-placed Brighton's success this season, bagging seven goals and three assists for the Seagulls.

Arsenal will be hoping the Waterschei native brings his prowess in the final third to the Emirates Stadium as the north Londoners aspire to end a 19-year wait for the Premier League title.

Man City's First January Signing Confirmed?

Reports suggest that the 24-cap Belgian international rejected other offers in favour of playing for the Gunners, with Trossard's agent recently revealing how eager the 13-time English top-flight champions were to sign his client.

"I personally offered Leo to Arsenal," Josy Comhair told

"This is the most beautiful club for him and the football they're playing suits him perfectly.

"The deal took 48 hours which shows how much Arsenal wanted him."
