Arsenal restored their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League after defeating Manchester United 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.
Result: Arsenal 3-2 Manchester United
Date: 22 January 2023
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Erik ten Hag made one change from the draw with Crystal Palace, as Scott McTominay replaced the suspended Casemiro while the Gunners were unchanged from the North London derby win.
The Gunners looked lively in the early stages of the encounter, but they were unable to carve out a good opening against a United side happy to sit back.
However, the Emirates Stadium was silenced in the 17th minute as Marcus Rashford brilliantly skipped past Thomas Partey before firing into the bottom corner from around 25 yards out.
Arsenal weren't behind for too long as the scores were level in the 23rd minute when Eddie Nketiah nodded home Granit Xhaka's cross for his sixth goal of the season.
The game was played at a decent tempo and the visitors carved out another chance ten minutes before the break, but Aaron Ramsdale was on hand to keep out McTominay's strike from the edge of the box.
Arsenal completed the turnaround seven minutes into the second half when Bukayo Saka carved out some space before unleashing a strike from 25 yards that sailed into the bottom corner.
The pendulum swung once again as Ramdale's failure to collect a corner allowed Lisandro Martinez to head into the back of the net for his first United goal.
Arsenal went close to pulling ahead with 20 minutes left on the clock as Saka cut in from the right once again and let loose, but his strike deflected onto the upright.
Mikel Arteta looked to his bench with eight minutes to go, as Gabriel Martinelli made way for new signing Leandro Trossard on the left flank.
De Gea came to United's rescue with five minutes left on the clock, as the Spaniard produced a superb save reaction save to deny Nketiah from six yards out.
Arsenal got the winning goal on 90 minutes as Nketiah completed his brace with an instinctive finish from Odegaard's cross, with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) approving the strike.
