This is according to Sport, who claim that Marco Asensio's representative, Jorge Mendes, has engaged in discussions with the Blaugrana over a potential free-agent transfer for his client.
The Spain international's contract will expire at the end of the current campaign should his deal not be extended before June, leaving him able to move to a new club without commanding a fee ahead of next season.
Asensio, 27, has been linked with a switch to Los Blancos' fierce Spanish rivals for several months, with Mendes believed to have a great relationship with the Catalan club.
The left-footed attacking midfielder has previously spoken of his desire to stay at the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners, but is said to be no closer to a renewal in Madrid.
The report suggests that Asensio's contract demands are above what Real are willing to offer him in talks over a potential new deal, making it likely he will move on before the 2023/24 campaign gets underway.
No player has swapped the famous white of Los Blancos for Barcelona's colours since Luis Enrique did in 1996, but it remains to be seen whether or not Asensio would be willing to break that 27-year history.

His lack of regular game time under Carlo Ancelotti since the Italian returned for a second spell could be factored into his decision, with Asensio having played just 735 minutes of football so far this season.
