One of Africa's brightest stars from the 2022 FIFA World Cup could be making his way to Barcelona on deadline day, with reports claiming that the Catalan giants are working on a deal to bring him to the Spotify Camp Nou.
African Star 'Agrees' Surprise PSG Move
Sofyan Amrabat enjoyed a stellar World Cup as Morocco made it all the way to the tournament's semi-finals, and now it seems that his performances in Qatar are on the verge of earning him a major transfer to the five-time European champions.
According to Spanish transfer expert Gerard Romero, the Catalan side want to bring in the Fiorentina defensive midfielder for the rest of the season on a loan deal with a non-mandatory purchase option.
The 26-year-old was spotted at the Blaugrana's home stadium during their 1-0 victory over Getafe earlier this month, although it was claimed at the time that no contact between Amrabat's representatives and the Barca board had been made.
For much of the transfer window, the Dutch-born midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool touted to be interested in the Fiorentina man, but it now seems the LaLiga giants are in pole position to land Amrabat's signature on the final day of the window.
Messi: Why I Celebrated In Front Of Van Gaal
“I'm proud to be linked with top clubs like Barcelona and Atletico [Madrid]. But I'm a Fiorentina player, I respect the club and I have a great relationship with the president," he told Marca when he was quizzed about his future in December.
"We also have a good coach at Fiorentina, but yes, I like Cholo's [Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid manager] style."
