Xavi Hernandez made five changes from El Clasico before the FIFA break, as Marcos Alonso, Jordi Alba, Eric Garcia, Ferran Torres and Fati were recalled.

Fati's recall does come days after his father publicly blasted the club for his lack of minutes under Xavi this season, fueling speculation about his future at the Camp Nou.

The league leaders enjoyed a lot of possession in the early stages of the first half, although Elche were quite happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.

The visitors got the breakthrough in the 20th minute as Robert Lewandowski bagged his 16th league goal of the season with a close-range finish after getting on the end of Ronald Araujo's knockdown.

Barcelona could have had a two-goal cushion at the break when Lewandowski was presented with another opening on 43 minutes, but the striker could not keep his header on target.

The visitors carried that momentum into the second half and doubled their lead ten minutes in when Fati bagged his fourth league goal of the campaign with a fine strike from the edge of the box.

It wasn't too long until Barcelona got the third goal as Lewandowski completed his brace on 66 minutes after latching onto a pass from Gavi before firing past Edgar Badia.

The Polish striker turned provider four minutes later by sending a well-weighted cross-field pass to Torres, who cut inside before rifling one into the far corner.

Elche, meanwhile, barely offered anything going forward in the second half as the Catalan outfit saw out the remaining stages with relative ease to run out 4-0 winners on the night.
