The Uruguayan forward's contract with Atletico Madrid is set to expire at the end of the season, and according to Spanish football journalist Jose Alvarez Haya, Suarez is eager to reunite with former teammate Xavi Hernandez at the Camp Nou.

It is further claimed the forward would be willing to take a pay cut in order to facilitate a move back to the five-time European champions.

Suarez enjoyed an incredibly fruitful spell with the Catalan giants after moving to Spain from Liverpool for a reported fee of €81.7 million (R1.3 billion) in 2014.

Along with scoring 195 goals in 283 appearances for the Blaugrana, he won four LaLiga titles, four Copa del Reys, two Supercopa de Espanas, a FIFA Club World Cup and the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League trophy.

He achieved all of that as part of a prolific attacking trio that also featured Lionel Messi and Neymar, with the three of them combined becoming famously known as "MSN".

However, the 2011 Copa America winner left Catalonia acrimoniously after being released by then-Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman in 2020, a decision labelled by Messi as "disgraceful".

It was Suarez who had the last laugh, though. After joining Diego Simeone's Rojiblancos in the Spanish capital, his 21 league goals helped "El Cholo" and Atletico capture the 2020/21 LaLiga crown.

The striker has also been linked with a potential move to Aston Villa, where he would be reunited with another former teammate in the form of Steven Gerrard.
