Odegaard Backed To Win Ballon d'Or By Arsenal Legend

Following PSG's resounding 7-0 victory over sixth division side Pays de Cassel in the Coupe de France this week, club vice-captain Presnel Kimpembe was surprised to learn that Mbappe was now captain Marquinhos' deputy and took to social media to express his confusion.

According to L’Equipe, however, PSG head coach Christophe Galtier has since spoken to the French centre-back to explain the situation.

As per the report, the 56-year-old tactician explained to 2018 FIFA World Cup winner that he shares the vice-captaincy with three other players, namely Marco Verratti, Sergio Ramos and Mbappe.

He also clarified that, since only Mbappe and Ramos started for Les Parisiens during the French Cup clash, it was the Paris-born attacker who donned the armband for the Ligue 1 table-toppers because of the number of years he has spent at the Parc des Princes in comparison to the Spanish centre-back.

When captain Marquinhos is unavailable, it is Kimpembe who assumes the responsibility of leading the team out, but having been plagued by injuries for much of this season, he last led the French giants out in October 2022. In the case where both the Frenchman and the Brazilian are unavailable, it has been Verratti who has taken their place.
