English giants Manchester United have confirmed unwelcome news relating to superstar winger Marcus Rashford ahead of their Premier League fixture this coming weekend.

The 25-year-old had to withdraw from England duty in this international break after initially being named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Three Lions’ 2024 UEFA European Championship qualifiers.

Criticism came Rashford's way after he was later spotted enjoying a holiday in New York City, with Southgate publicly stating he has no issue with what players choose to do with their time off.

On Monday, though, the Red Devils confirmed in a statement that while their in-form No. 10 has returned to training this week, he is still unable to work with the main group ahead of the team’s trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.

"Marcus Rashford has started his recovery at Carrington after sustaining an injury in our last fixture, the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham. Marcus was able to get out on the grass at our training base on Monday," a statement from United read.

"But the Reds' leading goalscorer could only take part in a small session, away from the main group. There was no ball work involved for the 25-year-old, who scored his 27th goal of United's season with a long-range beauty against Real Betis.

"Rashford's fitness will be a concern heading into the Premier League clash at Newcastle United on Sunday. United boss Erik ten Hag is likely to provide an update on Marcus in his pre-match press conference later this week."
