Paris Saint-Germain's first-team manager has confirmed that a certain decision has already been made regarding Kylian Mbappe after he scored five goals in their 7-0 win on Monday night.
The 24-year-old France international captained PSG to a memorable victory away at Pays de Cassel, a sixth-division side that reportedly includes die-hard supporters of the French champions in their squad.
While Mbappe has worn the armband before, Monday night was the first time he led PSG out from the start of a match, and he met the occasion with a club-record goalscoring haul.
The striker scored five times to help inspire his team to the Coupe de France's round of 16, with Galtier saying in a press conference after the game that Mbappe was made the team's vice-captain at the start of the season.
"We decided at the start of the season that Kylian Mbappe should be the second captain," he said, according to Goal.
"He deserves to have this armband when Marquinhos is absent."
Galtier was also delighted with Mbappe's impact in the match.
"Kylian Mbappe's a goalscorer, he's obsessed with goals and attacking. I'm not going to say he's going to gain confidence [from scoring five goals], but he's up to his standard," he added.
"It was important for him and Neymar to play the full game. They combined a lot and looked for each other a lot. It was good for them."
Mbappe has now scored 196 goals for PSG since his arrival from Monaco, and is only four strikes short of Edinson Cavani's all-time club record.
