Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has reportedly had a change of mind on his future in France – here is the latest on the former Barcelona captain's situation.
Messi 'Wants To Beat' Ronaldo Record Before Leaving Europe
Following his exploits for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed the tournament's Golden Ball winner was not far away from committing to a new deal in Paris.
Messi, however, has still not penned an extension with the Ligue 1 champions, although there is an option in his current contract for a further 12 months, which would need to be agreed by the seven-time Ballon d'Or victor.
Rumours this week have suggested the ex-Blaugrana No. 10 is reconsidering his future amid claims that winning more titles in France is not a prospect that motivates him after his success in the Middle East last month.
Spanish publication Marca believe a return to Barcelona would be the most likely next move for Messi if he was to leave PSG at the end of the season, despite his apparent fallout with the LaLiga club.
The Argentine would, however, need to accept a significant wage decrease in order to go back to his boyhood side, for whom he scored 672 goals in 778 matches between 2004 and 2021.
Messi has also been linked with other clubs around the world, with Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal joining Inter Miami in their interest in the player.
Romano has insisted that PSG and their No. 30 are still scheduled to meet to iron out details over a new deal in the French capital, but Messi is legally able to listen to offers from other teams after entering the final sixth months of his contract.
