Date: 29 August 2018
Venue: Goble Park
A 93rd minute goal saw Cape Town City rescue a point as they played to a 2-2 draw against Free State Stars in an Absa Premiership match at Goble Park on Wednesday night.
City took the lead in the fifth minute after Stars goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera fumbled a cross into the path of Matthew Rusike and he made no mistake with a clinical finish to make it 1-0.
Eight minutes later, Craig Martin almost doubled the visitor’s lead when he met a Keanu Cupido cross into the box, but his header went just over the target.
Stars first decent effort in front of goal came just after the half hour mark when Makhehlene Makhaula let fly from long range, but Peter Leeuwenburgh made a great save to deny him.
City suffered a bit of set-back just before the half time break when Roland Putsche had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Thabo Nodada.
The half ended 1-0 in favour of City.
The home side came out attacking in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts in the 57th minute when a spectacular free-kick from Bangali Keita found the corner of the net, 1-1.
Five minutes later, Stars took the lead when some spectacular play from Goodman Dlamini saw him work his way into the box before producing a clinical finish, 2-1.
City tried to get back into the game and came close in the 78th minute, but Rusike fired his shot from just inside the box inches over the target.
The Cape Town side threw players forward in the final ten minutes, and managed to rescue the game when a shot from Craig Martin was turned into the net by the Stars goalkeeper to see the match end 2-2.
