Kaizer Chiefs winger Kgaogelo Sekgota does not have much competition at his club and complacency could be a factor after his form dropped just before the World Cup break.

Sekgota had a strong start to the season, with Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane admitting in the early stages of the campaign that the 25-year old was one of their best players.

However, the former Swallows winger's performances dropped in the closing games before the FIFA break, as he was notably relegated to the bench in a couple of games, including the league Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.

Sekgota does not have direct competition at Amakhosi - an attacker with similar qualities of taking players on, as Zwane also admitted that they need another winger who can take the pressure off his shoulders.

However, the former Bidvest Wits player has found competition at Bafana Bafana, as Orlando Pirates forward Monnapule Saleng got the nod ahead of him in the line-up in the friendly against Mozambique on Thursday.

Although Sekgota was introduced in the latter stages of the 2-1 win over the Mambas, Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has stated that he does not want to rotate his team anymore and wants to settle his core team ahead of the resumption of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March next year.

So competition for places at Bafana has the potential to improve Sekgota's game at Chiefs, because he will always be compared with Saleng, given the rivalry between the two Soweto giants, as they have similar qualities as left-footed attackers.

When it comes to the statistics, Saleng appears more superior to Sekgota, with five goals scored for Pirates in eight appearances in all competitions.

In comparison, Sekgota is yet to score a goal for Amakhosi in 15 appearances in all competitions this season, with only two assists to his name.

In fact, 'KG' has not scored a goal for Chiefs in official matches since joining them in July 2021 and that is an area of his game where he needs to work on and improve tremendously, because Saleng has raised the bar, in so far as the national team selection is concerned.
