Because of the FIFA break, domestic football is on hold, with the national teams playing their respective qualifiers. Bafana Bafana hosted Liberia at Orlando Stadium on Friday and played to a disappointing 2-2 draw, before visiting them at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex for the return leg, which was unfortunately played after we went to print. I hope by the time you read this column, they’d have secured a positive result so that we increase our chances of qualifying for the next Afcon in Ivory Coast. It is no surprise to see the number of players that coach Hugo Broos selected from Mamelodi Sundowns. They have been doing exceptionally well and the coach is on record praising them for reporting to camp just a day after returning from Sudan, where they played to a 1-all draw against Al-Hilal. That shows professionalism and Sundowns need to be applauded for that. Doing well is accompanied by discipline, dedication and commitment. Having said that, it is very important for Bafana to collect maximum points, especially when playing at home, because you never know what to expect when playing away. Liberia selected a strong squad for these two matches, but we have to qualify!
