Marumo Gallants battled back on two occasions to secure a 2-2 draw against Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday evening.

Result: Cape Town City 2-2 Marumo Gallants

Date: 14 March 2023

Venue: DHL Stadium

Thamsanqa Mkhize was re-called to the City line-up, as Thato Mokeke missed out through suspension, while Mduduzi Mdantsane made his 100th appearances for the club.

Fresh from CAF Confederation Cup duty last week, Gallants made two changes for the clash as Tshepo Gumede replaced Lehlohonolo Nonyane, while Katlego Otladisa made way for Mahlatse Makudubela on the left.

Gallants have not won in the Western Cape since their debut in the top-flight two years, which includes two losses and a draw against the Citizens while they boast the same away record against Stellenbosch FC.

The Citizens did all the attacking in the early stages and were rewarded with the opening goal in the 22nd minute through Khanyisa Mayo's impressive volley, which took his tally to six goals in the league.

However, the visitors weren't behind for too long as Lesebi Nu restored parity seven minutes later with his first league goal of the campaign by nodding past City goalkeeper Darren Keet.

City come out firing in the second half eager to get back in front, which is exactly what they got as Mayo completed his brace by curling a neat free-kick six minutes after the break.

The visitors were not to be outdone as Ranga Chivaviro, who netted a brace against the Citizens earlier this season, levelled matters for his side once again on the hour mark.

Boths sides pushed for a winning goal in the latter stages of the second half, with City pushing for a CAF Champions League spot while Gallants look to move off the foot of the table.

However, neither side were able to find a breakthrough and were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, as Eric Tinkler's side remain in fifth position while Gallants are one point adrift of safety.
