Result: Sekhukhune United 1-1 Chippa United

Date: 18 March 2023

Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium

Chippa interim coach Kurt Lentjies recalled Andile Mbenyane in the attack after last week's Nedbank Cup triumph, as they aimed to end their three-game winless run in the league.

Sekhukune, meanwhile, started with Kamohelo Mokotjo and Sammy Seabi in the middle of the park as Victor Letsoalo and Chibuike Ohizu continued to lead the line for the home side.

The game got off to a lively start, with both sides carve out half chances in the opening 20 minute, with Sekhukhune going closest after Letsoalo saw his goal-bound strike blocked by Ronald Pfumbidzai.

The home side got the opening goal in the 25th minute when Ohizu grabbed his fourth league goal of the season after nodding home a cross from Rodrick Kabwe.

Chippa weren't behind for too long, as Etiosa Godspower Ighodaro turned home a low cross for his eighth league goal of the campaign, although goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata allowed the ball to squeeze under him.

The home side had a couple more chances to restore their lead late in the first half, although Ohizu and Letsoalo were unable to profit from their golden chances.

There was a stoppage in the second half that halted the momentim of the encounter after a clash of heads between Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Matome Mathiane, but both players were able to recover and continue the game.

The Chilli Boys opted for a double change on 76 minutes, as Ronaldo Maarman and  Siphesihle Luthuli were introduced in place of Janovane September and Thabiso Lebitso.

Sekhukhune had a chance to restore their lead in the 81st minute when Daniel Cardoso headed a corner back into the six-yard area and found Edwin Gymiah, who saw his header saved by Nwabali.

With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Sekukhune were awarded a penalty on 92 minutes when Roscoe Pietersen was deemed to have handled the ball. Kabwe stepped up but saw his spot-kick saved by Nwabali.
