DStv Premiership

Result: Sekhukhune United 3-2 Marumo Gallants

Date: 03 January 2023

Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium

Sekhukhune coach Brandon Truter handed a start to Chibuike Ohizu in the attack after the weekend's stalemate against AmaZulu, with Tashreeq Morris droping out of the side.

For Gallants, Ayanda Nkili was recalled to the starting line-up in place of Ismael Toure, as they looked to bounce back from the defeat to SuperSport United.

The decision to include Ohizu paid dividends when the Nigerian forward bagged his second goal of the season in the 27th minute after pouncing on Washington Arubi's erro.

The visiting side, however, weren't behind for too long as they pulled themselves level two minutes later courtesy of a strike from Celimpilo Ngema.

The sides went into the break level pegging, but that all changed three minutes when Victor Letsoalo restored Sekhukhune's lead with his third league goal of the campaign.

Gallants coach Dan Malesela responded with his first change on the hour mark, Lesedi Nku was replaced by Joseph Malongoane who scored the winner in this fixture last season.

With the visitors pushing for an equaliser, Sekhukhune went on to extend their lead in the 76th minute as Letsoalo completed his brace on the night.

The visitors did pull a goal back though Sibeko in second half stoppage time, but Sekhkhune had done enough to secure maximum points.

Truter gets his first win at Sekhukhune, who climb up to 12th spot while Gallants find themselves in 14th position.
