A few hours remain before Kaizer Chiefs host Mamelodi Sundowns and Soccer Laduma looks at how the sides could lineup at FNB Stadium.

Amakhosi are determined to get their first win of 2023 and head coach Arthur Zwane has to put out his strongest lineup to try to overcome a Sundowns side that has not tasted defeat in the DSTV Premiership since September last year.

In goal, Itumeleng Khune looks set to keep his place. Sifiso Hlanti is expected to make a return for Amakhosi after serving suspension in the last match against AmaZulu, which will see Happy Mashiane making way. The central defensive pairing of Zitha Kwinika and Edmilson Dove has not been as solid as Zwane would like, but the coach is likely to keep his faith in the duo.

In the middle of the park, Zwane has a big decision to make. Young Samkelo Zwane has been playing in the role previously occupied by Njabulo Blom, and playing there would be a huge task for the Amakhosi product. Mduduzi Shabalala started the last match for Chiefs, but Kgaogelo Sekgota could be given a start to unsettle the Sundowns defence.

Upfront, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana remains Amakhosi’s biggest threat. He may have failed to convert from the penalty spot against Usuthu, but Zwane is unlikely to bench him for that.

Sundowns have not made too many changes to their lineup in recent times. Ronwen Williams should start in goal, having been in good form.

The big decision is whether Rushine de Reuck or Grant Kekana will start alongside Mothobi Mvala in central defence. Khuliso Mudau seems to have cemented his place at right back, while Aubrey Modiba is showing good form at left back, making him a favourite to start there ahead of Sifiso Ngobeni.

Teboho Mokoena and Marcelo Allende have cemented their places in midfield at Sundowns at the moment, while Neo Maema is in good form.

Looking at how well Peter Shalulile has performed against Chiefs in the past, head coach Rulani Mokwena could be tempted to give him his first start since returning from injury.

 Possible lineups
