Interest is being showed in a Kaizer Chiefs player whose future has become increasingly in doubt in recent weeks.

With Chiefs nearing the halfway mark of their DStv Premiership matches for the current campaign, Thabani Dube has been a notable absentee from coach Arthur Zwane’s match day squads.

Considering that the defender made 16 appearances in his first year with the Soweto giants last season, it had been expected that the centre-back would improve in his second season but so far things have not gone according to plan for him.

Amakhosi new signings for this season Zitha Kwinika and Edmilson Dove have been preferred at centre-back in Zwane’s team, with Dube struggling to make the match day squads.

Dube excelled at Richards Bay FC, before he was signed by Chiefs last year, when the KwaZulu-Natal outfit was still campaigning in the second tier.

According to sources, the 30-year-old is monitored by the KZN outfit with a view to lure him back even if on loan, possibly in January.

“Thabani Dube’s situation at Chiefs is monitored by his former club Richards Bay. There is interest in the player to possibly sign him on loan in January,” said the source.

Dube’s contract with Amakhosi runs until June 2024, having penned a three-year deal when he arrived from the Natal Rich Boyz last year.

Stellenbosch FC and Chippa United are among the clubs believed to be monitoring the player’s situation in Naturena, according to sources.
