Kaizer Chiefs have finally come to a decision on the future of one of their defenders, whose contract is only expiring in 2024, Soccer Laduma can exclusively reveal.

This publication previously reported that Thabani Dube's representatives were planning to seek clarity on their client's future at the back end of 2022, with Amakhosi yet to communicate their stance.

Dube is yet to feature for Chiefs under head coach Arthur Zwane, going far back to April 2022 after 'Mangethe' replaced Stuart Baxter on a caretaker basis.

The latest information regarding the matter, as reported in edition 1308 of Soccer Laduma, available at your nearest outlet, is that Chiefs are ready to part ways with 30-year old left-sided centre-back.

The writing is on the wall for the former Natal Rich Boyz defender especially after the Glamour Boys announced the signing of SuperSport United left-footed centre-back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe on a four-year contract from a pre-contract agreement.

"The club has instructed his camp to find him a team. With the signing of Thatayaone Ditlhokwe from SuperSport United, everyone can see now that Dube will not play," a source close to the transfer dealings at Amakhosi told the Siya crew.

The Premier Soccer League January transfer will slam shut next week Tuesday and it's unclear whether there will be suitors for the services of Dube.

Dube has a year to run on his contract after he joined Chiefs in 2021 on a three-year contract, with an option to extend for a further two years.

If the 30-year old does not find another team in a few days' time, it would not be a surprise if Amakhosi go the route of a termination of contract at the end of the season, something they have done regularly over the years, influenced by the so-called rebuilding phases.

After Chiefs parted ways with at least 11 players at the end of last season, there could be further cuts a season later.

Soccer Laduma looks at players whose futures are on the knife-edge at the club

Eric Mathoho

Mathoho's contract expires at the end of the season and he has only made a one minute, blink-and-you-missed-it cameo appearance this campaign, prior to the game against Royal AM.

Khama Billiat

Billiat's contract is also up for renewal at the end of June and his latest injury set-back, in a season where he has not scored a single goal, casts further doubt on his future at the club.

Phathutshedzo Nange

Nange will also enter the final five months of his contract from next week Wednesday.

It speaks volumes that head coach Arthur Zwane has given youngster Samkelo Zwane the benefit of the doubt to fill the void left by Njabulo Blom in defensive midfield, with the likes of Nange still around.

Cole Alexander

Alexander's contract only expires in June 2024 but he is one of the experienced midfielders who have been snubbed by Zwane.
