In an effort to ensure they are a lot more competitive next season, the Siya crew understands that Kaizer Chiefs are working tirelessly behind the scenes to nail down their transfer targets as soon as possible.

As things stand, Amakhosi have already signed SuperSport United defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe on a pre-contract and he is expected to tighten up a Chiefs rearguard that has conceded 26 goals in 23 DStv Premiership matches in this campaign.

As reported in edition 1314 of Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi rekindled their interest in TS Galaxy defender and captain Given Msimango, who has been one of the club's consistent performers this season, despite the well-documented problems the club has been going through over the last few months.

Amakhosi, who pulled out of signing Msimango last season, are understood to have been talks with Galaxy for the signature of the central defender and the player is almost certain to be in the gold and black of the club, despite interest from Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates as well.

With Ditlhokwe and Msimango set to walk through the Naturena gates in a few months, this means the Soweto giants could have a new-look defence next season.

Zitha Kwinika was signed from Stellenbosch FC before the start of the current campaign, but he has struggled to fully settle at the back, with head coach Arthur Zwane recently using him at right back, where he looks a bit more comfortable. Siyabonga Ngezana, meanwhile, has bounced back after a difficult start to the season and he will be looking to do more to ensure he holds onto his place in central defence.

New additions will create more competition for Amakhosi at the back, which could make a difference as they look to challenge dominant Mamelodi Sundowns for the Premiership title.
