Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has reminded supporters who are no longer in favour of head coach Arthur Zwane that they are the ones who "recommended" him to the club.

Zwane previously served the club as an assistant coach under different head coaches and had two spells as a caretaker coach in the past two seasons, where he impressed.

Following his last stint as interim coach after the club parted ways with former coach Stuart Baxter towards the end of last season, there were loud calls for '10111' to be given the role on a permanent basis and Chiefs obliged by giving him a three-year contract as a head coach.

Khune says supporters need to be patient with Zwane, after their season did not live up to expectations, because they are the ones who recommended him to be appointed by the club.

"All I have to say to the supporters is that, yes, we've been asking for patience but again they need to understand that there's been different coaches in the past seasons because most of the time it is what they recommend to the management," Khune told journalists in a Soweto derby press conference ahead of the game.

"And I don't know how they made the decision but the club has delivered on certain coaches that the fans recommended and a number of players that they wanted to come in.

"So everyone who has come in needs time to settle. We understand that Kaizer Chiefs is not a club to wait. It's a club where we have to play every match to win, every silverware we must challenge for," he said.

"But again when you have players that are new, they don't understand the setup, it's our role and responsibility as leaders, as players who have been here for long to guide them."

The veteran shot-stopper carried on to say that the team is ready to compete for silverware and they just need a little bit of time and believes from next season the club "should be able to win everything on offer".

"But it's never that easy and it won't take just one day for that to turn around. It will take some time, so if you have to look at European clubs they are patient with their coaches, they are patient with their players," he went on.

"Because they know the team is building. Yes, we have not been winning silverware but the squad now compared to the previous squads, I think is ready to compete.

"If we can just be given more time, come next season I think we should be able to win everything that is on offer," he added.
