Mamelodi Sundowns have explained that the club agreed on a contract termination with Kermit Erasmus, which allowed the striker to rejoin Orlando Pirates as a free agent.

Erasmus had a year left on his contract with Sundowns and his chances of playing regularly at Chloorkop this season were slim, after the club went into the market to bring in more attacking talent in the form of Abubeker Nassir and Marcelo Allende. According to Sundowns, the two parties agreed on the termination to allow the 32-year-old to get game-time.

“Mamelodi Sundowns has parted ways with Kermit Romeo Erasmus who joined the Brazilians back in October 2020. The enterprising striker's contract was due to end in May and both parties have agreed on early termination to allow Kermit to get more game-time elsewhere.”

“In the two years that Kermit has been with Mamelodi Sundowns, the talented player has displayed professionalism and was always on hand to share his knowledge and experience with his teammates. Everyone at Mamelodi Sundowns would like to wish Romeo the best of luck with his future endeavours on and off the pitch."

This will be Erasmus' second spell with the Buccaneers and will add firepower to a striking department that has struggled a bit this season. Erasmus will be hoping to make his debut against Sundowns in the MTN8, when the two sides meet in the first leg semi-final at Orlando Stadium on October 1.

In a post on Twitter, Erasmus thanked the Sundowns faithful for the two years he spent at Chloorkop.
